Saint Francis de Sales seminarians serve
at archbishop’s installation Vespers and
Mass
Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki installed as 11th
archbishop of Milwaukee January 4
Saint Francis de Sales seminarians started 2010
off with several exciting events. Coming off of
their Christmas vacation, they were scheduled to
go on retreat after the first of the new year.
When they were invited by their soon-to-be archbishop
to participate in his installation celebrations,
however, plans were happily altered. The retreat
was re-arranged so that all of the seminarians
could remain in Milwaukee for evening Vespers and
the installation Mass the next day for Archbishop
Jerome E. Listecki.
Archbishop Listecki and the bishops of the Archdiocese
of Milwaukee began the two-day installation event
with evening Vespers on Sunday, January 3. The
6 p.m. service took place at the Cathedral of St.
John the Evangelist in downtown Milwaukee.
The next day, the seminarians were greeters, servers
and part of the procession, among other duties,
at the 2 p.m. Mass of Installation, also at the
Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. The seminarians
joined with Fr. Don Hying, rector of the Seminary,
Papal Nuncio Pietro Sambi, and many cardinals,
archbishops (including former Archbishop of Milwaukee
Timothy M. Dolan, now Archbishop of New York),
bishops and priests in welcoming Archbishop Listecki
as the eleventh archbishop of Milwaukee.
Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki was named archbishop
of Milwaukee November 14, 2009, by Pope Benedict
XVI. He had served as bishop of La Crosse, Wis.,
since March 1, 2005. He was installed as archbishop
January 4, 2010.
