Most Reverend Jerome E. Listecki

The Most Reverend Jerome Edward Listecki was named the 11th archbishop of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee by Pope Benedict XVI in November 2009. Listecki, 60, was installed as archbishop January 3, 2010.
A native of Chicago, Archbishop Listecki attended St. Michael the Archangel Grammar School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary South High School and Niles College of Loyola University. He began his graduate studies at the University of St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein Seminary in 1971, and was ordained a priest on May 14, 1975. On November 7, 2000, he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Chicago by Pope John Paul II and was ordained a bishop on January 8, 2001. In January 2002, Archbishop Listecki was named the Episcopal Vicar of the Vicariate 1 of the Archdiocese of Chicago. He was installed as bishop of La Crosse March 1, 2005. He is also a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserves.

Archbishop Listecki served as dean of students at Quigley Preparatory Seminary North, Chicago. He has a doctoral degree in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, Rome, and taught Canon Law and Moral Theology at the University of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Ill.

As the bishop of La Crosse, Archbishop Listecki led the diocese in various initiatives including a successful $50 million dollar capital campaign; the individual incorporation and computerization of all 165 parishes of the diocese; raising over a half-million dollars in Gulf Coast flood relief; assisting in relief for the local floods; and the formulation of a diocesan-wide pastoral plan.

Most Reverend William P. Callahan, OFM. Conv was named an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee by Pope Benedict XVI on October 30, 2007. He was appointed Archdiocesan Administrator in April 2009 and served in that role until Archbishop Listecki’s installation.

Bishop Callahan, born June 17, 1950, is a Conventual Franciscan of the St. Bonaventure Province in Chicago. A native of Chicago, Callahan has served in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee as associate pastor of the Basilica of St. Josaphat Parish, from 1977 to 1978, and, again, as rector and pastor of St. Josaphat Parish, from 1994 to 2005. Callahan left the parish in 2005 and served as Spiritual Director for the Pontifical North American College, the seminary for Americans, in Rome until December 14, 2007.

Callahan was ordained to the priesthood on April 30, 1977, by Milwaukee Archbishop William E. Cousins. In addition to serving as associate pastor of St. Josaphat, Callahan served as the Director of Vocations for the Conventual Franciscans, from 1978 to 1984; as Associate Pastor of Holy Family Parish in Peoria, Ill., from 1984 to 1987; and as Pastor of Holy Family Parish in Peoria, from 1987-1994.

Bishop Richard J. Sklba was born in Racine, Wisconsin, on September 11, 1935. Bishop Sklba spent two years at St. Catherine's High School in Racine before transferring to St. Francis Minor Seminary in Milwaukee to finish high school and begin his college education.

From 1954 to 1960 he studied in Rome, completing his undergraduate studies and receiving his first of three advanced degrees in scripture.

In 1960 he was ordained and became assistant pastor of St. Mary Parish in Elm Grove for two years. He returned to Rome from 1962 to 1965 to complete the equivalent of a master's and doctorate degree in sacred scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute and the University of St. Thomas Aquinas "Angelicum". For the next 11 years, he provided weekend pastoral service to St. Veronica Parish in Milwaukee and taught scripture at St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee. Bishop Sklba was ordained a bishop on December 19, 1979. Active in the area of interfaith ministry, Bishop Sklba was elected Chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs during the 2004 fall general assembly, and began his three-year term in November 2005.

Archbishop Timothy Dolan appointed the Reverend Donald J. Hying as rector of Saint Francis de Sales Seminary, effective July 1, 2007. Ordained to the priesthood May 20, 1989, by Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland, O.S.B., Fr. Hying has served as Director of Formation at the Seminary since August 2005. Prior to that, he was pastor at Our Lady of Good Hope Parish, Milwaukee, from 1999-2005. Fr. Hying's first appointment was as associate pastor at St. Anthony Parish, Menomonee Falls, from 1989-1994. He then served as a team member at La Sagrada Familia, an archdiocesan parish located in the Dominican Republic, from 1994-1998. Upon his return to the archdiocese, Fr. Hying was an associate pastor at St. Anthony Parish, Milwaukee, from 1998 until his appointment at Our Lady of Good Hope.

David Backes, ordained a permanent deacon in 2005, has been a professor at UW-Milwaukee since 1988.  The author of five books related to wilderness and the human spirit, he is best known nationally for his biography of Sigurd F. Olson, one of America's most beloved nature writers and most influential conservationists of the 20th century.  The book, A Wilderness Within: The Life of Sigurd F. Olson, published by the University of Minnesota Press, won a national award in 1998 for best biography.  Recipient of an honorary doctor of humane letters from Northland College for his wilderness-related writings, Deacon David continues to be invited to speak on the topic, and serves on the advisory board of the Listening Point Foundation, a wilderness education organization focused on the philosophy of Sigurd Olson. 

At UW-Milwaukee, Deacon David teaches broad humanities courses on nature and culture and religion and culture, and seminars on the Catholic Church and society and the mass media and society.  He is based in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.  He holds bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in the area of environmental studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Deacon David and his wife, Judi, have four children, and their parish is Divine Mercy in South Milwaukee.

Ordained a deacon for the Rockford Diocese in 1994, Deacon Michael Burch was Incardinate into the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in 2003. With a BA in Religious Studies with certification in Youth Ministry from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee and a MA in Christian Community Leadership from Regis University in Denver, Deacon Mike has spent many years in professional ministry. He currently serves as Parish Director at St. Peter Claver, Sheboygan.

Fr. Tom Cassidy is a Priest of the Sacred Heart, Hales Corners. Fr. Cassidy was ordained in 1971. His educational background includes a Masters of Divinity degree from Sacred Heart School of Theology, MA in Political Science from the Catholic University of America, Washington D.C.; MA in religious studies from Mundelein College, Chicago; and an Ed. S. in school administration from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana. In July 2004, Fr. Cassidy was appointed President-Rector of Sacred Heart School of Theology, Hales Corners.

Kathleen R. Dahlgren

Kathleen R. Dahlgren is a shareholder at the Milwaukee law firm of Lichtsinn & Haensel, S.C. where she practices primarily in the area of employment law. She also represents several Catholic religious orders, and serves as the U.S. Province Attorney for the Priests of the Sacred Heart. Kathleen is a graduate of Marquette University and the College of William and Mary.

Jan De JongVery Rev. Jan de Jong, SCJ, STD,STL
Born in Ouder-Amstel, Netherlands, Fr. de Jong became a professed member of the Priests of the Sacred Heart (SCJ) in 1957 in the Netherlands and was ordained in 1964. After receiving his education in philosophy and theology in Holland, he began studies for graduate degrees in Rome in 1964. Fr. de Jong received a pontifical doctorate in moral theology from the Academia Alfonsiana, Rome, Italy, and a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, in Rome, Italy. He speaks six languages: English, Dutch, German, Italian, French and Spanish.

Fr.de Jong joined the faculty of Sacred Heart School of Theology in 1969, remaining there until 1974 when he became the Roman Catholic chaplain at St. Luke’s Hospital, Milwaukee. His ministry took a different direction in 1996 when he became the novice master for his congregation at their Sacred Heart House in Chicago. He remained there until 1999.

Fr. de Jong returned to Sacred Heart School of Theology in 1999 to teach moral theology. He served on many committees including the rector’s cabinet, spiritual formation committee, field education committee, and educational outcome committee. In 2003 he was promoted to professor of systematic studies. In October 2007 the board of directors of Sacred Heart School of Theology named Fr. Jan de Jong, SCJ, STD, the new president-rector of the seminary. His three-year term began January 1, 2008.

Lindsey Draper Lindsey Draper
After a thirty-year legal career that included working as an Assistant District Attorney; Assistant State Public Defender; and Judicial Court Commissioner at the Children's Court Center in Milwaukee County, Lindsey D. Draper retired in July, 2006. He is currently employed through the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance as the Disproportionate Minority Contact Coordinator for the OJA. In January, 2007, he was appointed Staff Director of the Governor's Commission on Racial Disparity, working to study and make recommendations to Governor Doyle on strategies to address racial disparities in the criminal justice system. Draper is a graduate of Seattle University (B.A., History) and Marquette University Law School, and serves on a number of area boards. He is the father of an adult son and worships at the Cathedral of St. John.

Barbara Gannon is Vice President-Corporate & Marketing Communications for Sargento Foods, Inc. She has more than 25 years experience in communications for the food industry and is currently responsible for corporate public relations, legislative issues, and product publicity and consumer affairs. Barbara is a graduate of the University of Dayton and earned her Master of Science degree from Arizona State University.

Peggy Gregorski
Peggy Gregorski is a graduate of Carthage College, with a degree in Business Administration. She has spent most of her professional life in development or institutional advancement for a variety of nonprofit organizations, including Carthage College, St. Catherine's Hospital, American Heart Association and Kemper Center. Peggy is currently the Development Director for the Kenosha Public Museums.

Rev. Leslie Hoppe is the Provincial Minister of the Assumption Province, Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans). He holds an MA in theology from Aquinas Institute of Theology and a Ph.D. in religion from Northwestern University. Rev. Hoppe served as Provincial Vicar from 1991 to 1996, and in addition to writing ten books, has served a number of publications in editorial roles.

Born in Milwaukee in 1938, Fr. Jerome Hudziak entered St. Francis Seminary and after 12 years of study, he was ordained in 1964. After serving in various assignments in Milwaukee County, Fr. Jerry retired in 2007 and is living in Franklin, Wisconsin. His various assignments include serving as Associate at 3 parishes, Campus ministry, Formation Director at the Pastoral School and Pastor of two parishes. He had done his graduate studies in Theology at Marquette University. He is presently serving as a weekend priest at St. James Parish in Menomonee Falls and assists as Spiritual Director at Sacred Heart School of Theology.

Rev. Bill Kohler was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in 1971. He holds a BA in philosophy from Saint Francis Seminary College; MA in Religious Studies, Mundelein College in Chicago; MS in Administrative Leadership from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Rev. Kohler has served a number of different parishes over the past 30 years, and most recently served as Archdiocesan Director of the Development for Worship, and Pastoral Services and Vicar for Planning for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

Sr. Marcia Lunz, OSF, is a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi and currently serves as Director of her Congregation. Sr. Marcia holds a Bachelors Degree in Music and Masters Degrees in Music Education and in Linguistics. In previous ministries she taught elementary school music in Wisconsin, Illinois and New York. She has served on the faculties of Hardwick College in Oneonta, NY and Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. The history of the Seminary and the Sister of St. Francis of Assisi has been intertwined since the 1850s. Sr. Marcia is pleased to continue the Sisters' relationship with the Seminary as a member of the Board of Directors.

Rev. David Reith
Rev. David Reith

Rev. David Reith was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee by Archbishop William Cousins in 1976. His seminary training includes graduating from De Sales Prep Seminary High School, Saint Francis de Sales College, and Saint Francis Seminary, with a Master of Divinity degree. Rev. Reith has served the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in many ways, including several terms on the Priest Senate, the Council of Priests and the College of Consultors, Dean of District Three, current member of the Priest Placement Board and current Pastor of St. Dominic Parish, Brookfield.


Dr. Daniel J. Scholz

Dan Scholz is the Chair of the Religious Studies Department at Cardinal Stritch University. He received his Ph.D. from Marquette University in biblical theology. Dr. Scholz was a member of the Saint Francis Seminary faculty for six years before joining Cardinal Stritch University in 2004. He was named chair of the department in the fall of 2005, and has over 20 years of teaching experience at the high school, college and graduate school level.

Dick Sonnentag brings a wealth of experience to the Seminary board. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Marquette University and an MBA from the University of Chicago. In 1990, Dick resigned his position as President of Kimberly-Clark's International Operations and its Board of Directors to pursue personal interests, including various not-for-profit organizations. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Midwest Airlines, Legatus International, and WHR Group, Inc.; and the finance committee of the Wisconsin Right to Life Foundation.

Tom Tuttle
Tom Tuttle is President and COO of The PrivateBank N.A., an affiliate of PrivateBancorp Inc., which he started de novo with Jay Williams and Mark Lemke in 2005.  Previously, Tom worked for M&I Wealth Management for nine years where he was the manager of the Personal Trust Group in the Milwaukee region and the Wealth Management Director of the M&I Private Bank.

Tom maintains numerous community involvement contacts including Repairers of the Breach, Neighborhood House, the United Performing Arts Fund, the Boy Scouts Endowment Committee and the Manor Park and Messmer Foundations.

Born and raised in the City of Milwaukee, Tom graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988 with a B.A. in History with Honors.  He also graduated from New York University School of Law in 1991 and practiced law in midtown Manhattan before returning to Milwaukee in 1995.  Tom lives in Mequon with his wife Kate and their seven children.
